How to Keep the Kids Entertained this Christmas Season

Christmas is fast approaching, and while it’s a magical time of year, it can also bring some chaos in keeping the kids entertained. The excitement of the season leads to plenty of downtime between presents, feasts, and family visits. So, let’s embrace this opportunity to keep the kids engaged and having fun, steering clear of screen time. Here are some festive and creative ideas to inspire joyful moments for the kids this Christmas season.

1. Crafting – My number one answer as to how to keep the kids entertained this Christmas Season.

There’s no better time for crafting than Christmas! Gather basic supplies like coloured paper, glitter, paint, and glue, and set up a crafting station where the kids can get creative. They could make their own Christmas Cards, stockings, tree ornaments, or even create festive wreaths to hang on doors.

For a more personal touch, you could do finger painting or make salt dough ornaments in the shape of your family’s handprints.

2. Baking

Get the kids involved in the kitchen to bake gingerbread men, mince pies, or cookies. Not only is baking a fun activity, but they’ll also love decorating the treats with icing, sprinkles, and all sorts of festive decorations.

3. Christmas Movies

There’s nothing better than cosying up on the couch with the family to watch Christmas classics.  ELF, The Polar Express, and The Grinch. Or younger kids animated films like Frozen or Arthur Christmas could keep them entertained for hours.

To make it extra special, turn it into a movie night with blankets, hot chocolate, and popcorn.

4. Visit Santa

Visiting Santa is such a fun experience for the whole family! There’s something special about meeting the real Santa in a cosy spot. The excitement from the kids is contagious as they wait to share their Christmas wishes.

5. Go to a Christmas Trail – This is my favourite option when trying to keep the kids entertained – getting outside!

The National Trust is a Family Favourite of ours.  Motissfont is just 25 minutes from Whitchurch, Hampshire and this year they have themed the house to the Nutcracker.  The hours of dedication to decorating the rooms are clear to see.  Year after year they create the most magical experience for the whole family.
