How to prepare for your Newborn Photoshoot
Are you considering booking a Newborn Photoshoot in my photography studio in Whitchurch, Hampshire, and wondering How to prepare for your Newborn Photoshoot. It can feel a bit daunting, but I’m here to guide you. Ensuring you feel prepared and at ease for your session.
1. Formula or Breastfeeding Supplies
Bring enough formula or any necessary feeding items for your little one during the shoot. I recommend trying to time your baby’s next feed to coincide with your arrival at the studio. We want to start the session with a sleepy, well-fed baby. If your baby needs a feed during the shoot we’ll have plenty of time to take breaks throughout your time in the studio. Also, if baby likes a dummy, I recommend bringing that with you too along with a change of outfit, nappies, wipes and anything else you keep in your nappy bag.
2. What should your baby wear?
For your baby’s outfit to arrive at the studio in, go for something soft and comfy, like a onesie or bodysuit, that’s easy to adjust or remove. Newborns can get chilly, so we keep the studio nice and warm (around 24–28°C) to make sure they stay cosy and comfy when their clothes are removed.
3. Dress in Layers Yourself
The studio will be warm (to keep your baby nice and cosy), so be sure to dress in layers. A light sweater or something easy to take off will keep you comfortable, and you can adjust if you start to feel a bit warm. If we’re doing parent shots, I recommend neutral colours like whites, creams or greys. These colours help keep the focus on you and your baby.
4. Expect the Shoot to Take 2 to 3 Hours
A newborn session usually lasts around 2 to 3 hours, depending on how things go with your baby. we’ll take our time and go at their pace. If you have an older child or sibling who’ll be part of the shoot, I recommend somebody take them home after their shots are done. This way, you can focus on your baby and get the best photos without any distractions.
5. Stay Calm, Relax, and Enjoy the Experience
Relax and enjoy the experience. Your baby is in safe hands. I’m professionally trained in newborn photography, and your little one’s comfort and safety are my top priority. If your baby needs a feed or a cuddle, we’ll take a break. The goal is to have a fun, relaxed session where we capture those beautiful moments with you and your baby.
