There’s something truly special about a Newborn Session for New Parents. Everything feels so new. The overwhelming love, the excitement, and those little moments when Mum and Dad look at their baby and still can’t quite believe they made that, Mum grew that, Mum birthed that. Our bodies really are incredible!
This gorgeous newborn session welcomed first-time parents from Basingstoke, just 20 minutes from my newborn photography studio in Whitchurch, Hampshire. Being centrally located for families travelling from Winchester, Newbury, Andover and Basingstoke means parents can easily reach the studio and, most importantly, begin their session feeling relaxed from the short journey.
We started with wrapped family photographs, which I always love doing at the beginning of a newborn session. Wrapping babies snugly helps them feel secure and gives them time to fully settle while creating those beautiful, connected family images parents love.
We then moved on to the individual newborn portraits and prop setups.
Then I heard something I absolutely loved hearing:
“I’m so glad we did this.”
Parents are often exhausted in those early newborn weeks. They’re adjusting to life with a brand-new baby, navigating sleepless nights and wondering whether arranging photos is one more thing to think about.
Then suddenly they see these tiny moments frozen forever.
Little fingers.
Sleepy eyelashes.
Soft newborn cheeks.
Alaiyah had the most beautiful full head of dark hair, and although I always offer a selection of delicate hats and accessories, it just felt right to let that gorgeous hair be seen throughout her session.
My favourite image from the entire session is the beautiful portrait of her snuggled up, holding her little bunny.
For me, it’s the cheeks.
Those soft, squishy newborn cheeks that parents spend weeks kissing and somehow seem to change before you even realise it.
Towards the end of the session, both parents commented on how comfortable the studio felt and joked that if there had been a sofa, they probably could have fallen asleep themselves.
The next day, I happened to see somebody gifting a sofa, and it’s now in the studio. So I can officially confirm that the studio is now fully approved for naps — for parents and babies alike.
At Isla Grace Photography, my newborn studio in Whitchurch, Hampshire, I want every family to feel like they’ve stepped into a calm space where they can simply slow down and enjoy these first days together. I regularly welcome families from Basingstoke, Winchester, Andover and Newbury, creating relaxed newborn photography sessions that focus on connection, comfort and preserving those tiny details that disappear far too quickly.
If you’re expecting and thinking about booking your own newborn session, I’d love to welcome you into the studio
