Ten Years Through the Lens: A Heartfelt Reflection
It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since I picked up my camera. What began as a simple hobby — just me, my camera, and my then 2-year-old Grace — slowly grew into the heartfelt career I have today.
I still smile thinking about those early days, chasing Grace around the garden trying to catch the perfect shot. She was my first little model — until the day she famously declared, “No more cheese, Mummy!” That was her official retirement… at least until she figured out how to negotiate.
But those honest, unscripted moments — her joy, her silliness, her truth — lit a spark in me. I realised how much I wanted to capture that same magic for other families. So I started offering free sessions to local parents, learning, growing, and slowly building the experience and confidence I have today.
Every session since has been rooted in that same love for preserving a moment in time.
Not All Paths Are the Right Ones
In the early days, like many photographers finding their feet, I said yes to pretty much everything. Including weddings. While I’m so grateful to the couples who trusted me with their big day, I quickly realised that high-pressure, all-day event photography wasn’t where my heart truly lay. I enjoyed the slower pace, the natural moments, and the connection that comes with working with children and families. It didn’t take long for me to know that my passion lived elsewhere — and that saying no to weddings was saying yes to what I loved – Portrait Photography
Finding My Style
Over the years, I found my true passion in children’s portraiture — not just photographing smiles, but capturing who your child really is. The quiet curiosity, the spark in their eyes, the split-second moment where they trust the camera… and me. That’s when the magic happens. When your child feels seen.
This work means everything to me, and every session feels personal. I know what it feels like to worry if your child will “perform” for the camera or if they’ll feel comfortable. That’s why I’ve spent years creating a calm, playful environment where children can just be themselves — no pressure, no forced smiles, just real moments.
In 2022, I became a Qualified Member of the Guild of Photographers, after years of growth, learning, and overcoming my own self-doubt. That milestone wasn’t just a professional win — it was personal. From a mum with a camera (and no idea how to use it!), to being nationally recognised for doing something I truly love — it still makes me proud.
As a woman and mother in my forties, I know how those old voices of self-doubt can linger. But this journey has shown me that when we find something that lights us up — something we’re good at — everything changes.
That’s the energy I bring to every session. I see your child, not just their smile. I see you, too — the parent who wants to freeze time, even for a moment. Because, it really does go so fast!

A burst of confidence
Earning that qualification gave me the confidence to go for Newborn Training and to add Newborn and Maternity Photography to my portfolio. I am so glad I did. Capturing such a special moment in your lives has brought me so much joy. There’s something incredibly special about being invited into such an intimate, life-changing chapter of your story. Whether it’s supporting a mum-to-be who arrives feeling shy and unsure, and watching her light up with confidence in front of the camera… or gently posing your precious newborn with all the care and safety they deserve — it’s a privilege I never take for granted

Looking Ahead
As you know this year has been quieter than I’d hoped. There have been moments when I’ve seriously considered giving it all up. But deep down, I know I’m not quite done. I still believe in what I do and in the magic of freezing a moment in time with a photograph. It’s still my dream to make this my full-time job — to grow this business, to keep capturing meaningful moments for your family. So I’m choosing to keep going. To keep learning and to keep showing up.
Thank You
To every family who’s trusted me, shared kind words, or even just encouraged me along the way — thank you! This journey has never been just about taking pictures; it’s been about people, stories, and connection, and I never underestimate how without you, I can’t do this job that I love!
See you soon
Lisa 🙂
