Testbourne Community School Awards Night
As well as being a Newborn and Family Photographer in Whitchurch, Hampshire, I am a proud Mum and I was honoured to attend the Testbourne Community School Awards Night. Not only did I attend as a sponsor of the Art certificate, but as a proud mum watching Grace receive an award too. What a wonderful evening, held at Queen Mary’s College, Basingstoke. It was lovely to see the students come together and celebrate each other’s achievements. With staff speaking so highly of the pupils, not just in terms of academic success but also in kindness, resilience and character.
Musical Talent at Testbourne Community School Awards Night
We were treated to some amazing performances. A wonderfully talented student welcomed us on the keyboard as we arrived, and later, trumpets and tambourines were playing one of my favourites, The Final Countdown (it took every part of me not to start singing along). And to top it all off, a very gifted young lady sang a stunning solo from Matilda. I was smiling throughout.

It was also lovely to see the other local businesses that sponsored an award. Showing just how much support and pride there is for the young people in our community.
I was nervous
Secondary school wasn’t a happy time for me. There was a lot of unkindness from other students, and sadly, not much support from the teachers either. So, when Grace started secondary school last September, I was nervous. As I am sure many of this year’s year 6 parents are at the moment.
Testbourne Community School Exceeds Expectations
I want to take this moment to reassure anyone who has a Year 6 child, about to start their secondary school journey. Testbourne Community School has exceeded all my expectations. Grace has a supportive tutor she knows she can turn to, and her head of year has been consistently excellent. Every teacher she’s met has contributed to a safe, encouraging environment where she feels free to be herself. Whether it’s a fist bump at the gate, a high five for a right answer, or a friendly hello across the playground, the staff strike a great balance between being a respected adult in authority and being approachable. Last night’s event reflected all of this. I’m grateful for the year Grace has had and feel confident about what’s ahead for her at the school. Good Luck to all of the new Year 7 starters in September.
Be Proud of yourself
A huge well done to every student who received an award. You should be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved. And to every student who’s shown up, worked hard, and given their best throughout the school year. Your effort matters as much.
Summer Holidays
Teachers, students, staff and of course Hernando the super support dog! Enjoy your six weeks of summer holidays. You’ve earned it!
