Are you wondering What to Expect at Your Newborn Photoshoot Basingstoke. If you’re booking your first newborn session, it’s completely natural to feel a little unsure about what to expect.

As a newborn photographer, Basingstoke families travel to, one of the biggest things I hear from parents before their session is worry—will baby settle? What if siblings don’t cooperate? What do we need to bring?

So I thought I’d walk you through exactly what happens, so you can arrive feeling calm, prepared, and excited.

“What If My Baby Doesn’t Settle?”

This is by far the most common worry and I completely understand why.

The good news is, in all my time photographing newborns, I’ve only ever had to reschedule two sessions due to babies being unsettled… and both of those little ones came back and were much happier the second time.

I’ve never had a client leave without any beautiful images of their baby.

Your session is completely baby-led, which means:

  • Nothing is ever rushed
  • No pose is forced
  • Baby always comes first

If your baby needs a cuddle, a feed, or just a moment with mum, that’s exactly what we do.

What About Siblings?

Another big concern for parents is how older siblings will behave and again, you’re not alone in thinking this.

I always photograph siblings at the start of the session, when they’re happiest and most cooperative.

After that, one parent can take them home or even to the park, while we continue with the newborn images in a calm, quiet environment. This works so well and keeps the whole experience stress-free for everyone.

If siblings are young, we can do an unposed session similar to the below.

What Do You Need to Bring?

The simple answer… not much at all.

I provide:

  • Wraps
  • Outfits
  • Props
  • Accessories

Everything is carefully chosen to create soft, timeless images, so you don’t need to worry about organising anything.

You’re very welcome to bring along:

  • A special teddy
  • A blanket
  • Any sentimental items you’d love included
  • Do bring the below items
  • Baby Formula
  • Nappies
  • A change of outfit for you, your partner and baby/siblings.
  • Hair Accessories for you
  • Snacks for siblings, bottled water is provided.

How Long Does a Newborn Session Last?

Sessions last up to 3 hours, which allows plenty of time for:

  • Feeding
  • Settling
  • Cuddles
  • And of course, a chat or two

There’s absolutely no pressure or rush. The slower pace is what keeps everything calm and relaxed.

A Calm, Baby-Led Approach

Your baby leads the entire session.

I gently guide everything, using soothing techniques, white noise, and a warm, comfortable environment to help baby settle naturally.

If your baby takes a dummy, I do recommend bringing it along. It can really help during transitions between setups.

Parents often comment on how calm the studio feels, and how relaxed their baby becomes once we begin.

A Space for You to Relax

While I photograph your baby, you can truly switch off.

There’s a comfortable seating area where you can sit back and watch, or simply take a moment to rest. Bottled water is provided, and you’re always welcome to make yourself comfortable.

Some parents even bring a laptop and log onto the WiFi—especially those balancing business and newborn life.

After Your Session

After your shoot, your images will be carefully edited and presented in a private online viewing gallery.

This gallery will be watermarked and low resolution for viewing, allowing you to choose your favourite images in your own time.
