When should you pack your hospital bag? Many expectant parents wonder about the best time to pack their hospital bag. If you are 34 weeks pregnant or further along, it’s recommended to have your hospital bag packed and ready to go, or to start packing it very soon.
In my previous blog, we looked at essentials to pack for you. As a Newborn Photographer in Basingstoke, these items were the top 5 given to me by my clients.
- Lip Balm
- Slippers
- Big Pants
- Sweet treats/snacks
- Bottles of water
In this blog we will look at 5 essentials to pack for your baby.
- Formula
- Nappies
- Vests
- Baby grows
- A Blanket
What to pack in your hospital bag item number 1, Formula
It’s a good idea to pack a box of ready-made formula in your hospital bag, whether you are planning to breastfeed or not. When I had Isla, the hospital did provide these, but the nurses have a lot of patients to see at the same time and can’t always get it for you immediately.
Nappies
Make sure to have at least one pack of newborn-sized nappies. There are multiple brands available for purchase, but I found the Fred and Flo nappies from Tesco to be the most absorbent and also one of the cheapest when I had my youngest.
Vests
You’ll want to keep the baby nice and warm, so make sure to have vests under every outfit. Pack at least 6 vests in your hospital bag.
Baby Grows
In the first few days after giving birth, there’s no need to worry too much about dressing the baby in outfits. I suggest packing six baby grows. You can find some super cute ones with Disney or other designs on them.
A Blanket
While you are in the hospital, blankets will be provided for the baby. However, for the journey home and tucking into your car seat, you should bring a blanket with you. You can find lovely blankets to purchase, or perhaps you have a crafty relative who can knit or crochet one for you.
