The summer holidays are upon us! Whether you have a little one with time away from their usual groups, or older children home from school, 6 weeks stretches out before us all…

Are you looking forward to it? Or is the time without structure something that you dread?

I love to spend some quality time with the kids over the summer. Here are some of my favourite places to visit with children of ANY age this summer.

Things to do in the summer in basingstoke - Eastrop Park

Eastrop Park, Basingstoke. There are hours of fun here for the whole family. a shallow outdoor pool free to use, a swing park, a boating lake at an additional charge and plenty of space for a picnic.

The River Loddon runs through the park, feeding into a balancing pond in the wildlife area. This is a great way to encourage your little ones to sit quietly and spot some new birds or insects they haven’t seen before. Take paper and pencils and get them to draw their favourite. Or, even better, take a camera and photograph their finds!

Charlton Lakes, Andover. A Great place to meet with friends. A lovely walk around the lakes, a Swing park, a boating lake at a fee, Crazy Golf at a fee, a snack shop and a large playing field.
My kids just love the playground, and the promise of an ice cream is all that’s needed to convince them to come away when play time is over!

Rooksbury Mill, Andover. A nature Reserve with a small Nature Trail, large playing field, perfect for a picnic and a swing park. The large open space is great to kick a football around or blow off some energy!
And if it’s raining, grab your wellies and have a splash in some puddles. It’s these kinds of moments that make lasting memories.
Danebury Hilfort, Middle Wallop. A beautiful loop around a Historic Hilfort with magnificent views accross the downs. If your children love to use their imagination then how about combining this visit with a craft activity? Make swords and shields from cardboard, your children can design their own crest to go on them, and then have lots of fun being knights with their home made weapons, when you visit!

Things to do in the summer in basingstoke - whitchurch silk mill
Whitchurch Silk Mill. Whitchurch, Hampshire. The mill itself isnt free but you can visit the shop and cafe, or you can pay the entry fee to visit the museum. You can feed the ducks in beautiful Whitchurch, Grab a coffee from the cafe and cross the road to the local park/playing field. you’ll spend a few hours spending nothing, or make a day of it if you go into the museum!

What about you? Do you have a favourite place to spend a few hours in the summer? I’d love to hear all about your recommendations in the comments below!
